Words Matter, But the Message is King
While reading through some of the posts on Presentation Zen, I came across one that I thought was truly beneficial to those trying to communicate in the corporate world using Interactive Media Advertising. This post talked about the importance of simplicity in communicating. Many communicators make the mistake of overusing large words or complicated summaries. This post emphasized the importance of the meaning of the message, not the complexity of the words used or the length of the sentences.
In referencing Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech, "the meaning of your words or the importance of the content, but it is the power of the conviction and the sincerity of the delivery and the amazing connection Dr. King made with the people that make this a legendary speech." That is exactly what you want to get across every time you communicate: a connection to your audience. The corporate world is extremely fast paced so make what you say memorable, make it stand out, make it create buzz around the topic. Use key words and quotes to enforce the recognition and remembrance of you, your ad and the things that you say.
The average person sees a minimum of 3000 ads per day; make your ad catch their attention, make it interesting, and make it relevant to their needs. Consumers are constantly bombarded with irrelevant information from ads for products they don't use to an endless supply of Spam on the Internet... why should they notice yours?
Quite simply, because you made it matter.
