Blog Away!!
The benefits of corporate blogging are quickly becoming apparent, and more and more corporations are beginning to adopt the concept. According to an Edelman/Intelliseek report, about 20,000 new blogs are created each day, and an estimated 10 million U.S. blogs will exist by the end of this year. And though most of those are small businesses, a growing number of Fortune 500 corporations are beginning to leverage blogs as part of their communications strategy.
Thinking of initiating a corporate blog? Before you do, be sure you are mindful to some of the challenges it may produce if you aren’t prepared. According to a Backbone Media study one of the biggest corporate concerns regarding blogging is legal liability. Corporate bloggers need to be monitored to ensure that they don’t inadvertently violate trademark or copyright laws, leak trade secrets/product release dates, even libel clients, competitors, or fellow employees.
Develop an Employee Blogging Guideline document to avoid such problems. IBM created a comprehensive 6 page document to outline it's expectations of corporate bloggers. Click here to view the document
